Woman and child found dead in Logan

Police are investigating the deaths of a 38 year old woman and a one year old girl after their bodies were found at a home in Belivah, south of Brisbane, on Thursday morning.

Officers were first called to Beaudesert Beenleigh Road at Bannockburn about 7.30am after reports that a 39 year old man had been hit by a car nearby.

After police identified the injured man, they went to the Belivah address to notify his next of kin. Instead they found the woman and child dead inside the house.

The man was taken to hospital in a serious condition and remained under police guard on Thursday. Detectives said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Detectives are treating the deaths as suspicious and believe the three people had been living together as a family unit.

Police said the injuries suffered by the woman and child appeared to match wounds from an edged weapon but forensic work was still under way.

Investigators were also trying to work out which of the man’s injuries happened before he was struck by the car.

Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said that “We have witness accounts of him running from that house shortly before he was hit by the car.”

Police said some witnesses also reported the man appeared to have injuries to his neck as he ran from the property.

Police set up two crime scenes as forensic officers continued examining the home and the nearby road.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the Belivah Road or Beaudesert Beenleigh Road area between 7am and 8.30am on Thursday especially anyone with dashcam footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
