Reports by the police indicated that the daylight robbery and assault occurred close to Pier Road, with at least one of the suspected robbers still at large.
A female and a teenage boy are facing charges in relation to an attack and robbery that allegedly occurred against a Norwegian tourist at Melbourne’s St Kilda Pier, as detectives seek to find other individuals who may be connected.
According to Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives, a 34 year old man who was visiting from Norway was approached by a group of people in the area of Pier Road about.
A confrontation allegedly took place, in which the man was assaulted and had his phone taken from him before being thrown into the water.
The tourist was rushed to a hospital and treated for a fractured arm and other injuries, before returning home earlier than expected.
According to an update released on Friday, “Detectives have executed search warrants on premises in Hillside and Coolaroo, arresting a 19 year old female and a 17 year old male.”
The woman of Hillside was charged with affray, assault in a group, assault by kicking, and common law assault. Police stated that she was released on bail to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 8.
The 17 year old male from Coolaroo is charged with affray, causing injury recklessly and assault in company, and is also on bail and will appear in court on 19 January.
The most recent arrests come after another individual, aged 19 and from Deer Park was charged after he presented to a police station, according to police.
He faced charges of assault, intentionally causing injury, robbery, affray and theft and has been bailed to appear on 8 July 2026.
Police have previously said a large number of bystanders were in the area at the time of the alleged attack and urged anyone who witnessed the incident, filmed it or has relevant information to come forward.
Investigators say the motive for the confrontation remains part of the ongoing inquiry, but earlier reporting quoted a detective as saying police information suggested the group used an allegation about photos as a pretext for the confrontation.
The police added that investigations continue and they feel at least one offender remains outstanding.
