More than a dozen people were detained by armed police in Melbourne’s outer west after officers were called to a home over an alleged assault and people inside refused to come out.
Emergency services went to the property in Mambourin, near Wyndham Vale, on Saturday morning after reports that a man had allegedly been assaulted. When officers arrived police said the group inside would not leave the house.
Tactical police moved in, cleared the property and detained 13 people. Reports from the scene said officers used firearms as they took control of the house, and footage described by local media showed those inside being ordered out before they were taken into custody.
In simple terms, the people were detained at gunpoint because police were responding to an alleged violent incident and said those inside had refused to follow directions.
Police then found a man in his 20s inside the home unresponsive. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition with another report saying his injuries were non life threatening.

Investigators have not yet publicly explained what happened inside the property or how the man was injured. Victoria Police said the exact circumstances are still being worked through.
The property has been described in media reports as short term accommodation and it had hosted a party the night before, though that detail has not been confirmed in the police account now in the public domain.
Most of the people detained were later allowed to leave. This suggests police were still sorting out who was involved and what offences if any might follow.
At this stage, the main reason for the dramatic arrest scene appears to be the combination of an alleged assault, an unresponsive man inside the house and a group that police say refused to come out when first ordered.
