A 46 year old man from the Manning suburb of Perth has been charged after WA Police claim he created and sent child exploitation materials to American prison inmates.
Detectives from the Child Exploitation Operations Squad started the investigation in January after the Texas Board of Criminal Justice forwarded information to WA Police.
According to police, the referral was about claims that someone in Western Australia was corresponding with US inmates, who were incarcerated primarily for child sex offenses.
The accused had been communicating regularly via written correspondence and online forums for years with convicted child sex offenders and murderers worldwide.
On February 12, detectives carried out a search warrant at a Manning residence.
Police claimed to have confiscated a number of documents, images and videos that they believe contain content related to child exploitation.
The man is accused of three counts of creating child exploitation material and two counts of distributing it.
February 20, 2026, he is scheduled to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court after being placed under remand in custody.
WA Police emphasized in a statement that sharing child exploitation content can result in long term harm and that it involves actual victims.
Anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to report it to the police, including through crime stoppers, according to the police.
