Sadly, two motor bike riders lost their lives in a head on crash in Perth’s east yesterday afternoon.
The motor bike crash occurred on a quiet road and has left the community in shock with concerns being raised regarding road conditions for motor bike riders in the region.
The accident occurred about 3:30 PM on the Great Eastern Highway near Mundaring, which is about 40 km from the city center.
Emergency services attended quickly, but unfortunately they could not save the two riders and they declared them dead at the site.
Preliminary information indicates that one of the accident victims was riding west when he collided with an approaching motorcycle headed in the opposite direction.
t has yet to be determined why the accident occurred but the police are certain that neither of the bikers was wearing anything but a helmet for protection when the accident happened.
The Perth police are encouraging any witnesses with further information to come forward and help with their investigation.
The road was shut down for a number of hours in order for an investigation into the accident to be conducted.
The local community of motorbike enthusiasts has raised concern about the safety of motorbike riders in that region due to the condition of the road as well as the lack of road signs to caution them.
As the probe is ongoing notification of the families who lost their loved ones in the accidents has been made and local police are supporting them as they go through this tragic period. The identities of the cyclists have yet to be made public.
The authorities are also expected to increase their efforts to raise the level of public awareness regarding safety practices for motorbikes.
There has been an unfortunate spate of deaths within the region culminating in this incident, warranting the need for strict enforcement practices within road safety regulations, more so for the group that may be most susceptible to accidents when using the road pathways.
This is the latest incident that has raised more concerns over road safety in Western Australia, especially with the high number of deaths involving motorbikes on our roads.
Though the cause of this accident is still yet to be confirmed this is the sad truth that motorbikes are on a daily basis exposed to on our roads.
