Homicide Squad called in after woman found dead in Goulburn home

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found inside a home in the NSW Southern Tablelands on Saturday morning.

Police were called to a house on Joshua Street, in Goulburn, about 7 AM after receiving a concern for welfare. Officers forced entry into the property and located the woman body inside.

The woman has not been formally identified by police, but they believe she was aged in her 40s.

Detectives from the Hume Police District have begun inquiring into the death at the scene, while they have also contacted the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, which has joined.

A crime scene was set up around the house, while a part of the street was cordoned off. This was in consideration of the forensic analysis processes the investigators were undertaking.

The police and specialist officers could be observed investigating the house exterior and looking for fingerprints on its windows as part of investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the woman and anyone who might have made contact with it.

The residents reported the presence of the police as the officers proceeded from the address to neighboring houses. The forensic team was seen documenting the scene.

The involvement of the Homicide Squad does not necessarily pre suppose a murder charge, but it usually means police regard the circumstances as serious enough to warrant specialists oversight, especially where the cause of death is unclear or investigators are working to rule out foul play.

Police have not released further details about the woman injuries nor when she was last seen alive. No arrests have been announced.

The operation is being led by detectives from the Hume Police District, who are receiving assistance from specialist homicide investigators.

The officers will continue knocking on doors, reviewing any available CCTV in the area, tracking the woman movements in the hours and days before her death.

The police are asking for anyone with information or footage of events on Joshua Street to contact Crime Stoppers if they witnessed anything unusual in that region.

Investigations are ongoing.
