Hillary Clinton has stated that she is sure that her husband, former US President Bill Clinton, did not know about Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activity.
Speaking to the press following a closed door deposition in Chappaqua, New York, the former US secretary of state was asked whether she believed Bill Clinton had been ignorant of Epstein’s crimes. Hillary Clinton responded: “I am.”
The former secretary of state made the statement following an hours long deposition before the House Oversight Committee, which has been hearing testimony from prominent individuals named in or connected to documents released.
Hillary Clinton told the committee that she had no information to share about the crimes committed by Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell and that she did not remember ever meeting Epstein.
She said that she never flew on Epstein’s plane or visited his properties and that she found the charges against Epstein and Maxwell to be “horrifying.”
Bill Clinton is expected to testify before the committee on Friday.
Hillary said that her husband will tell Congress that “most people who had dealings with Epstein before his 2008 criminal plea did not know about the sex trafficking.”
Bill Clinton’s connection to Epstein has been under the microscope for years, including reports that he flew on Epstein’s plane in the early 2000s after he left office.
He has denied any wrongdoing and has said in the past that he regretted any connection to Epstein.
The investigation has been defended by committee chairman James Comer as an effort to understand how Epstein was able to maintain his influence and access, and Comer said that transcripts and video of the Clinton deposition will be released.
Democrats on the committee, however have charged that the Trump Justice Department is cherry picking which records to turn over related to Epstein, a charge that the Justice Department said it is reviewing.
