Denmark King Frederik and Queen Mary are coming to Australia

Denmark’s King Frederik and Queen Mary will travel to Australia for a state visit from 14 to 19 March 2026 with business and cultural engagements scheduled in the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the trip will be the couple’s fourth official visit to Australia and their first since the King’s accession.

He said he was honoured to welcome them and framed the tour as a chance to deepen cooperation on shared priorities including sustainability, renewable energy and innovation.

The Royal House of Denmark said the visit is intended to strengthen an already close relationship that spans culture, the economy and foreign policy.

It said stronger ties matter as geopolitical shifts increasingly link economic and security developments in Europe with those in the Indo Pacific region.

The court said the tour will build on a strategic partnership signed in 2023 with the green transition and economic security among the key themes.

The Danish court said the King and Queen will be joined by Denmark’s Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities alongside a large business delegation.

It said 55 Danish companies will participate in a business promotion initiative titled Partnering for a Green, Secure and Sustainable Tomorrow, aimed at accelerating cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficient urban development.

Nature and cultural conservation will also form part of the programme, according to the Danish side reflecting shared interests beyond energy and industry.

However, specific event details have not yet been released. Both the Australian government and the Danish court said the full programme will be announced at a later date ahead of the March visit.
