The founder of the Gold Coast charity Serving Our People, Yas Daniel Matbouly, has been charged with dozens of alleged offences including rape and sexual assault after a Queensland Police investigation into complaints from three women.
Matbouly appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday, January 31, 2026, charged with 51 offences.
Police allege the offending occurred between April and November 2025 and involved three women who were known to him.
The charges include 34 counts of sexual assault, 14 counts of rape, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of attempted rape.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the charity’s Mermaid Beach headquarters on Friday and seized a number of items before Matbouly later attended a police station and was arrested.
Prosecutors opposed bail in court raising concerns about the seriousness of the alleged offending, the risk of flight and the risk of further offences.
Matbouly’s lawyer, Tim Ryan KC, told the court his client had presented himself voluntarily to police and argued any risks could be managed through strict conditions.
The court granted bail with conditions including a ban on international travel, regular reporting to Broadbeach Police Station twice a week and orders not to contact the complainants and the case has been adjourned to February 19.
Serving Our People which was established in 2020, runs food and community support services across south east Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Police have said there are no allegations of wrongdoing by the charity itself and the organisation has been contacted for comment.
