Chappell Roan shocks fans in ‘pierced’ naked dress with nipple rings

Chappell Roan’s Grammy Awards

Chappell Roan’s arrival at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles in a sheer maroon gown that seemed to dangle from fake nipple rings has reignited red carpet rumours.

The Mugler dress was cut as a minimal slip, with the fabric draped from the chest and falling into a backless silhouette. Photos also showed a tattoo effect across her torso and back, giving the outfit a gothic, medieval twist, alongside a matching wrap and jewellery.

Fashion coverage linked the silhouette to the label’s runway history, describing it as a custom re-creation inspired by Thierry Mugler’s 1998 couture show “Lingerie Revisited”, later echoed in a modern update on the brand’s spring 2026 runway.

The moment arrived while Roan is still a candidate for an award. Her song “The Subway” is nominated for both Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, according to the Recording Academy listings.

The styling also doubled as a nod to her current stage world. Entertainment Weekly reported the tattoo motif tied back to the medieval theme of her “Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things” tour, with her makeup artist Andrew Dahling telling Marie Claire: “It’s still fantasy and something otherworldly, but grounded.”
