Bunnings is taking on Kmart with designer style furniture starting at just $19

Bunnings has expanded into the home furnishings market by promoting designer styles at low prices in an effort to attract customers who would otherwise shop at discount stores like Kmart and Ikea.

The item is a $19 Astin Sinclair Harris side table listed on the retailer’s website with a walnut effect finish and a rounded top supported by an arched base.

The product description says it is designed to work as a compact side table or bedside table and is made from MDF and particleboard with a melamine finish.

The same Harris range also includes a matching coffee table priced at $39 with a rounded rectangular top and curved panel legs and a slimline console table priced at $49 pitched as an option for hallways or behind a sofa.

A Bunnings spokesperson said in a statement that “We know our customers are always on the lookout for stylish pieces at affordable prices and the Astin Sinclair range delivers just that.”

The spokesperson added the range reflected Australians looking for pieces that bring function, style and value into the home.

The push comes as Bunnings continues to broaden its indoor categories well beyond the traditional tools and timber offering with the company promoting an Indoor Living section that covers everything from bedroom and living room furniture to home decor as well as a wider online range via its marketplace model.

Bunnings and Kmart Group sit under the same Wesfarmers banner, meaning the battle for value minded shoppers is playing out inside the group as well as against external rivals.

A sub $20 side table lowers the barrier to updating a room while bigger pieces in the same look come in at prices that undercut much of the market with availability depending on store and delivery options shown at checkout.
