Bayern Munich coach warns Eintracht Frankfurt look renewed and ready for a tough test

Bayern Munich coach warns Eintracht Frankfurt

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said his team cannot lean on past results when they host Eintracht Frankfurt who he thinks have picked up fresh energy under new management.

Speaking before Saturday’s Bundesliga match in Munich, Kompany played down talk about next week’s big game against Borussia Dortmund and said his full focus is on Frankfurt.

Bayern go into the weekend six points ahead of second placed Dortmund with 12 games left with the top two due to meet on 28 February.

Kompany said there is a risk of suspensions for players on several yellow cards but added it will not change how the team prepares.

Frankfurt come in after a coaching change that has quickly lifted the mood. Albert Riera was appointed on 30 January to replace Dino Toppmöller, signing a deal through to June 2028.

Under Riera, Frankfurt have taken four points from their past two league games, including a 3-0 home win over Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bundesliga analysts have said their defence looks better organised than it did at the start of 2026.

History suggests Bayern will not have an easy night. Since the start of 2019-20, no team has beaten Bayern more often than Frankfurt who have also scored more goals against the Munich club than any other side in that period.

Bayern’s build up has included winter disruption with the club confirming staff cleared snow from the training pitch at Säbener Straße after heavy falls in Munich.

Team news also matters. Bayern will start Jonas Urbig in goal after Manuel Neuer suffered a tear in his left calf while Frankfurt are missing several players though striker Jonathan Burkardt is due back in the squad.
