Armed man shot dead

An armed man was shot and killed after he entered the secure area of President Donald Trump’s Mar a Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida in the early hours of Sunday.

US Secret Service said that its agents encountered the man near the north gate of the property around 1:30 am local time.

The Secret Service said that the man was armed with what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can.

Trump was not in the Florida resort at the time of the incident.

The White House has confirmed that the President was in Washington, where he and First Lady Melania Trump attended an official event on Saturday night.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said that two Secret Service agents and a sheriff’s deputy approached the man and told him to drop what he was holding.

Bradshaw said that the man lowered the fuel can, but then raised the weapon, and the agents fired.

There were no reported injuries to any law enforcement officers.

The man has not been named by the investigators. The Secret Service said that the man is in his early 20s and is from North Carolina.

He had been missing for a few days, and his family had reported the matter to the authorities, the Secret Service said.

He apparently headed south and got the shotgun along the way, adding that a gun box was found in his car.

According to officials, the man was able to enter the property by driving through the north gate while another car was leaving the premises.
