Driver Now Facing Charges After What Happened Outside Supanova

Driver Now Facing Charges

A 33 year old man from Werribee has been charged after a deadly crash outside the Supanova Comic Con and Gaming event at Melbourne Showgrounds.

Police said on Sunday the man was charged with dangerous driving causing death and culpable driving.

He did not have a full licence and was only on a learner permit when the crash happened. Police said more charges could follow as they continue to investigate.

The man was set to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Sunday afternoon. The crash killed one person and left another badly hurt.

A third person was with the two who were hit but managed to get out of the way and was not injured.

Police said a grey Toyota went up onto the kerb near the showgrounds and hit two pedestrians.

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan said the crash should never have happened. She said her thoughts were with the family of the person who was killed and called it a deeply distressing event for everyone involved.

Supanova organisers held a minute’s silence at midday on Sunday, the second day of the convention, for those affected.

The event brings in thousands of fans each year and this weekend featured international guests including Jamie Campbell Bower and Andy Serkis.
