Police have released images of a burnt out Toyota they believe could be linked to the disappearance of Sydney grandfather Chris Baghsarian as investigators widen their search across the city’s north west.
Mr Baghsarian, 85 was taken from his bedroom at his North Ryde home about 5am on February 13. Police say the abduction appears to be a case of mistaken identity. They have repeatedly appealed for his safe release.
The latest focus has been on suspicious car fires at Westmead. Emergency services were called to Good Street about 11:30pm on Tuesday, February 17 after reports that two vehicles were on fire.
One was a 2022 Toyota Corolla with Victorian registration 1UZ2BU. Police say it was reported stolen from an address in Victoria on January 13. Police believe the burnt out car is linked to a crime scene set up in Dural last week.
On Sunday, officers also went to a property along Vesperman Road at Glenorie near the Dural scene. Vision from the operation showed police searching bushland and nearby blocks. Dog handlers and PolAir were in the area.
Detectives are also examining a video linked to the case. Police say it shows the 85 year old with his hands tied and his face covered.
His family has spoken about the strain as the days pass without answers. The family said in a statement, “We are struggling to make sense of the fact that he has been taken.”
Police have urged anyone who saw or heard anything unusual around Westmead particularly since Friday to come forward as the investigation continues. They also want anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact them.
