Jordan Stolz has won a second gold medal in his Milano Cortina 2026 campaign. He powered to the men’s 500 metres speed skating title in Olympic record time on Saturday (February 14).
Racing in Milan, Stolz finished in 33.77 seconds. He set a new Olympic best and capped a remarkable week on the oval. He finished 0.11 seconds ahead of Jenning de Boo, who took silver in 33.88.
Canadian veteran Laurent Dubreuil won bronze in 34.26. He locked up the podium after an anxious wait that showed how tiny the gaps are in the sport’s shortest race.
Dubreuil had skated 34.26 earlier and, for a moment, held the Olympic record himself. Then the final pairings changed the standings.
Behind the medallists, Damian Żurek finished fourth in 34.35. Stefan Diniz was fifth (34.461) and Tatsuya Shinhama was sixth (34.466).
Tingyu Gao placed seventh (34.47) and Yevgeniy Koshkin was ninth (34.56). The top 10 finished less than a second apart.
Stolz’s win follows his 1,000 metres gold earlier in the week. That gives the American two titles from two of the marquee long-track events on the Olympic programme.
Alpine skiing
While Stolz set a new record, alpine skiing had its own landmark moment in Bormio. Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, racing for Brazil, won the men’s giant slalom in a combined 2:25.00. He beat Marco Odermatt (2:25.58), with Loïc Meillard taking bronze.
