Labor launches rapid attack ads

Labor launched online attack ads just minutes after Angus Taylor was elected Liberal leader, the new opposition leader is portrayed in the advertisements as a remnant of the party’s history.

After defeating Sussan Ley 34 to 17, Taylor emerged as the leader of the opposition, the deputy was chosen to be Jane Hume.

Less than an hour after the results were revealed, Labor’s first video appeared on ALP social media at around 10.30 AM. The caption read, “The Liberals are the problem, not the leader.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has frequently used the line in the campaign.

He contends that the Coalition’s values remain unchanged when its leaders are replaced. “Angus Taylor, just another Liberal” is how the video concludes.

Labor connects Taylor to former opposition leader Peter Dutton and former prime minister Scott Morrison in the documents released on Friday.

It claims that Taylor played a key role in the policies that the previous election’s voters rejected.

The advertisements also focus on public sector and workplace issues, such as working from home.

The quick rollout comes after weeks of conjecture regarding Ley’s role, following a private meeting in Melbourne in late January between Taylor and fellow conservative MP Andrew Hastie, rumors of internal changes began to circulate.

They first crossed paths at Katie Allen’s funeral, a former Liberal MP. Later, Hastie denied ever taking on a leadership role and days prior to the election, Taylor resigned from the shadow frontbench.

Ley has stated that she will leave the parliament in a few weeks.

In her regional NSW seat of Farrer, that will lead to a byelection, taylor’s leadership will be put to the test early on as Labor and smaller parties concentrate on the coalition’s course.
