Minister for Indigenous Australians

8 October 2019

Federal Member for Hasluck, Hon Ken Wyatt is encouraging exporting businesses in Hasluck to have their say on the Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) review.

The Morrison Government has initiated a review into the EMDG scheme as part of its commitment to the continued growth of local Australian exporters.

The EMDG scheme was development by the Government as a key financial assistance program to help aspiring and current exporters access the global market. This scheme saw 3,700 small to medium businesses employ almost 69,000 Australians and generate exports worth $3.7 billion.

The review will examine the most effective methods for the Government to support local exporters enter the global markets, grow their business and support our Australian economy.

On average, Australian businesses that export to global markets exhibit 13 per cent higher labour productivity, employ 23 per cent more staff, and renumerate those staff with 11 per cent higher wages in comparison to non-exporting businesses.

Ms Anna Fisher (Managing Director, Zonte’s Footstep) will lead the review at the request of Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham.

Ms Fisher will be travelling around Australia in October, and will hold face-to-face meetings in a number of locations.
